Kate's Personal Letting Go Ritual

the season of release

On Samhain (All Hallows Eve) we entered the most potent time of year for Letting Go; the last weeks of the year before the Winter Solstice. Oct 31- Nov 2nd we celebrated, honored and mourned the lives of loved ones who have passed through the traditions of Dia de Los Muertos, All Souls, Samhain and Halloween. Depending on your own traditions, you may have placed photographs of the dearly departed on your altar, lit candles, made special food or set out other offerings. Although we observe these holidays on their respective days, the season of Letting Go continues until the Winter Solstice on December 21st.

During this transformative and powerful time of the year, an overall darkness can be felt on many levels. Not only are we experiencing less daylight with the days getting shorter, but this is also the time to honor what is deep inside of us, resting in the darkness. If you think about the wheel of the year corresponding to the phases of the moon, we are in the final waning phase, moving towards the total darkness of the New Moon which coincides with the Winter Solstice. While Mother Earth wanes into darkness, we can also turn inward toward a time of introspection and self-reflection, like we might do during the waning moon phase of any month.

In order to prepare for our symbolic and literal winter, now is the perfect time to ask yourself, “What is working? What is not working?” Truly look at all the different parts of your life to see what is no longer serving you and what is not acting for your highest good. You might be surprised at what you find there. Perhaps it is a relationship that no longer works for your highest good or maybe it’s a habit that you’ve had for a long time that really does more harm than good. Or maybe it’s the way you talk to yourself when you look in the mirror. Now is the time to let it go.

Let it go

Let it go. It is one of those phrases that we hear all the time; it’s almost a cliché. We hear it so often but do we really know what it means or how to do it? It’s easy to say but harder to actually do. In most cases, you need to let go in order to let something else in. That may be a new person, ideas, creativity, love, acceptance and a myriad of other beautiful things. Often, we may need to do some healing before we are ready to let go and sometimes, we need to let go in order to heal.

To let something go means to lose all attachments, which can be extremely difficult depending on the situation. To lose all attachments means that you are no longer concerned with the outcome of a situation, to feel no responsibility for how a person or people respond or react to you or your actions and to stop worrying. To truly let go is to experience trust, faith and freedom. Sometimes this can feel very overwhelming and seemingly impossible, but with effective tools and determination, anyone can let go of that which no longer serves them. As with much intention-based spiritual work, intention is one of the most, if not the most important factor. What you put into something is what you get out of it. Intention gives an idea or a thought fuel and power. From intention comes manifestation.

Release rituals

There are many ways that you can put the power of intention into your act of letting go. Meditation, prayer, divination and seeking direction from counselors, mentors, and spirit guides, can help further the healing needed to prepare for letting go. While rituals, journaling and practicing different healing modalities can all help you put power behind your intention of letting go. Being as specific as possible when setting your intentions will greatly help further the letting go process!

Kate’s Magik Letting Go Anointing Oil is meant to serve as an aid to help you do just what its namesake suggests, let go. Letting Go is a beautiful, aromatic healing blend of divine Bulgarian Rose Otto and Cedarwood. Bulgarian Rose Otto Essential Oil has the magical power to lift burdens and relieve anxiety. Rose Otto with grounding Cedarwood is an incredibly potent blend, especially when combined with intention. Letting Go Anointing Oil (also available in Letting Go Massage + Body Oil) is a gentle blend to help you let go of pain, shame, guilt, anger and blame. Letting Go assists in freeing us from that which no longer serves us and removes unwanted obstacles from our path.

To use Letting Go Anointing Oil most effectively, apply generously above the heart and on the solar plexus and with clear intention. Apply anywhere on the body, while breathing the soft areas of the neck, decollete and arms as well as the wrists for inhalation. For best results, apply 4-5 times a day as you would use a tincture or flower essence. With each application, take a moment for yourself to slowly inhale the beautiful aroma and visualize and reaffirm your intention.

Kate’s Personal Letting Go Ritual

A note about Rituals: Rituals are best done when you have nowhere to go after and no obligations to meet. Create a safe, harmonious, quiet space where you will be uninterrupted for at least an hour. Set aside a minimum of one hour for the Ritual and ideally one hour afterwards to relax, contemplate, sit in nature or take a walk. It is highly recommended to perform the Ritual outside in nature. However a quiet, safe and comfortable space inside and away from the elements works well too.

letting go Ritual
  • Before starting the Ritual, draw a hot bath that will be the ideal temperature about 30 minutes into the Ritual. Add salt. (Skip this step if you don't have a tub and see notes for shower at the end.)

  • Get comfortable in your sacred space.

  • Light the sage and purify your entire body by fanning the smoke from the soles of your feet to the crown of your head. Use a feather, fan or your hands.

  • Light your white candle.

  • Anoint your 3rd eye with Letting Go Anointing Oiland inhale the scent from your hands. Call upon the Great Spirit to support, guide and protect you. Deities such as Isis, Ganesh, Kali and Hekate can be powerful allies when you want to release the old for new growth.

  • Close your eyes and set the intention to quiet your mind. Breathe deeply focusing on the areas of discomfort and allow all of your worries, aches, fears and thoughts to drain out of your spine and into Mother Earth.

  • Next, feel (or imagine) your aura (energy field around the physical body) and heart expanding and your crown (area above your head) opening to the heavens to allow Great Spirit (light/peace) to fill you, guide and protect you during this ceremony.

  • Come to the present moment and feel (or imagine) an inner smile.

  • Open your eyes.

  • Begin sipping your tea leisurely. Light more sage or a purifying natural incense of your choice. Once it starts going, fan the smoke towards your heart, throat, third eye (brow), crown and any place you feel discomfort.

  • Title one piece of paper Letting Go and list, in detail, ALL the things that you want to banish, that no longer serve you, as well as your fears, judgments, worries etc. Be as specific as possible.

  • The second piece of paper, titled Questions and Uncertainties and write down your questions, confusions and all of the things that are still uncertain or open ended. Fold it in quarters and place this paper with questions under the candle. At the end of the Ritual it will join your paper of wishes and intentions and be placed on your altar or in a safe and sacred place for the next 4 weeks.

  • Now place the bowl with water in front of you. Take the first piece of paper containing the things you want to let go of, and tear it into approximately ½ inch wide strips. Then light the tip of each strip on the candle, let it burn and drop into the water. LET GO OF THE STRIPS OF PAPER TO AVOID BURNING YOURSELF!

  • Watch it burn and intently visualize your challenges dissolving to make room to uncover your hidden forces and treasures. Continue until the whole sheet is burned (you will see remnants of paper in the bowl that did not burn) - during the process allow yourself to move through any emotions such as sadness, fear, grief, anger…etc.

  • Light a little more sage, get out of your seat and take a moment to stretch, shake it out, dance it out, make sound or drum and when you feel cleared, anoint yourself with a sacred oil such as Letting Go, Uncrossing or Isis & Rebirth Anointing OilGanesh or Hekate Perfume.

  • Prepare for your bath. Pour a generous amount ( ¼ bottle) of Letting Go Anointing Oil into the bath water.

  • Bring your candle and purifying sage or incense into the bathroom, slip into the tub, soak and relax and visualize releasing all negativity into the water - let it all go for 10 - 20 minutes. When you get out, apply more of your Sacred Anointing Oil or Perfume and your ritual is complete.

  • If you do not have a bathtub - take a hot shower with a purifying soap such as Shungite Healing Soap and apply oil all over wet body before drying off.

  • You have now freed yourself of many old belief systems and are ready to bring in those that serve you for this next chapter.

  • You may do some gentle movement, dancing, yoga or take a walk to integrate your ritual. Best to avoid distraction or interruption or looking at a screen for at least an hour if possible.

This is one of the most powerful scents I’ve ever encountered. I found it while working in a massage and acupuncture clinic in San Francisco, California a few years back and have been using it ever since. “Letting Go” has helped me overcome lots of childhood trauma and grief, and has helped me open my heart to love and light, and the beauty of life.
