This would make her an ancestor of King Arthur and his priestess sister and aunt. For me Mary Magdalene represents the sacred within the feminine, the God-spark that lives within every person and the perfect balance to the masculine. In 2018, this exceptional Indian deity was introduced to me by a masterful Yoga of the Voice teacher and I instantly knew that she would be an important guide for my next musical journey. Saraswati is the goddess of poetry, music, speech, and wisdom. Her name signifies, “she who has flow.” This past January I had the privilege to study and sing in India with a living dhrupad master, at which time I found an even deeper connection with this goddess of cosmic knowledge. In this time of rapid earthly transitions, life can be stifling and uncontrollable. Often all we can do is step into the flow and trust that it will carry us to higher ground. Anubis, the jackal-headed Egyptian god, is a protector of the dead and an overseer of embalming and funerals. He has been called “Lord of the Sacred Land,'' as well as “God of Deserts and Darkness.” He embodies a protective shaman or priest who guides mortals from one realm to another. Anubis also watches over and guides the souls of the dead on their journey from the physical realm to the afterlife. I created Anubis Perfume to help support us in understanding the temporary nature of our current life and to connect with those who have passed over. The term Bhakti is a Sanskrit word meaning faith, love, devotion, and authentic joy. I created the original formulation for this month’s Bhakti Perfume for my partner in life and love who makes his living as a musician. Performing can be trying at times, so he asked me to create a blend of oils that would help him connect with Source, provide protection, and instill gratitude for his musical gifts. Being a musician myself, I was called to create a fusion of sacred oils of strong protective qualities that awaken divine and effortless musical flow. Bhakti’s Perfume will evoke devotion, joy, and sacred protection from outside energies that can throw us off balance. All of the essential oils in Bhakti have been used since ancient times for these purposes, making it a perfect perfume for daily protection, meditation, ritual, ceremony, song, and prayer. My beloved and I were enjoying a sunset stroll through the desert discussing ideas for November’s Bastet Perfume, when suddenly he exclaimed, “What about Kamala?” At first I felt unsure because she is not a deity, but as we walked on, the formula began to download. We later discovered that Kamala means “lotus” in Sanskrit and is also an epithet of Lakshmi, the Hindu Goddess of love, beauty and abundance. Kamala Harris, the name of the Democratic Vice Presidential Elect, will be the first WOMAN in United States HIStory to sit at the head of our country.
