PERSEPHONE

Persephone, daughter of Zeus and Demeter, is known as the ancient Greek Goddess of Spring and Innocence, as well as the maiden wife of Hades, God of the Underworld. After being abducted by Hades, before returning to the living world to reunite with her mother, she tasted one pomegranate seed and according to the ancient laws, obliged her to remain in the Underworld for one third of each year. Her time in the underworld refers to a time of darkness, namely winter, the season of endings and beginnings. Persephone is both Queen and Maiden, representing the forces of life and death. She returns to her mother in Springtime and therefore is the ideal goddess to help us step out of the darkness and into the light.
