THE BASTET STORY
BY THERAPEUTIC PERFUMER KATE BECKER

BASTET: January 2024 Bastet Perfume of the Month

As we embark upon a brand-new year, what better time for the debut of an entirely NEW magical creation?
I introduce to you the long-anticipated perfume composed in honor of this collection’s mystical namesake - BASTET.

The Egyptian cat goddess Bastet is known as the Perfumed Protector, the Spiritual midwife, the Sacred Warrior, and She who Embodies the Qualities of the Divine Mother. In ancient Egypt, the image of Bastet often appeared on jars of protective ointments and perfumes. Bastet is here to bestow blessings upon your path, enhance sensuality and support the birth of new creations.

Scent Profile: Our mystical cat goddess invites you to inhale a bouquet of exotic flowers! Royal Moroccan, Sensual Jasmine and Intoxicating Tuberose serve as the heart notes for this NEW, sensual and nurturing creation. Myrrh provides sacred undertones of support while Cardamom highlights the perfume with a spark of fire!

INGREDIENTS: ORGANIC GOLDEN JOJOBA, PROPRIETARY BLEND OF 100% PURE ESSENTIAL OILS AND NATURAL AROMATIC EXTRACTS, VITAMIN E FROM SUNFLOWERS.

So...cat

My spouse and I have a little gray cat named Bratty who found her way into our lives when she decided to live on our porch. It was February, and she was sickly and sad, a tiny ball of gray fluff huddled in the freezing rain. This was 2017. Bratty is now the queen of our house. She is loving in the most demanding way possible, batting at us with claws out until we pay attention to her. She pounces on my stomach at night so I can pet her before I go to sleep. When she purrs, it sounds like stones are rattling in her throat. She may be the most perfect cat.

When I wear Bastet, I think about Bratty. It comes on strong at first, kind of musky and dark and rich like something you'd find in the bottom of a cedar chest that's been in the family for years and is rarely opened. It's not sharp, but it's bitey. Once it fades a little, a sweetness comes in, and, honestly, it smells a little like cat fur. It's earthy, a little dusty, even, with gentle notes of spice and tuberose. It's not one I wear every day, but when I do I feel a little tougher than I look.
