Lammas Message by Kate

Lammas and Lughnasadh Blessings Beautiful People,

Today, August 1st, we enter a very special time of year - in the Northern Hemisphere. It is the abundant, sacred season of late summer harvest, deep golden sunlight, windswept wheat fields and electric thunder storms. I love August. Even the name sounds soft, sensual and fulfilling. It’s the time of the mature mother, the graceful fair queen, the lioness and the seasoned masculine energy of the divine, life-giving sun. In August we take delight in summer fruits, submerging into bodies of water, listening to children screech and watching hawks fly high.

During this time mother earth bestows us with the most joyous time of plenty - shortly before the big work begins once again (September, autumn harvest, school etc). So now we acknowledge and give thanks to the fruits of our labor i.e. the gifts we are receiving from the seeds we have sown. This is why we celebrate, set altars, eat seasonal foods, bake honey cakes and give thanks as we watch the golden light of the setting sun with gratitude in our hearts and ideally loved ones by our side.

Not all of us have an easy time feeling joy this year. Personally, as I dared to share with you before, I have once again been in a time of deep transformation, shedding and self realization - a passage that most likely will take all of 2024 if not longer. Some of you are also on this journey, while others are holding space standing in a place of stability, peace and balance. Thank you!!! I will do the same for you once I arrive at that place once again. Yet, even during this alchemical passage I can time again find balance, hope and/or support in the language of the natural world. I look to the sunrise and sunset, the cloud formations, the trees and the birds. I commune with the moon rise, the monsoon storms, the lizards, rabbits and the snakes. I walk the labyrinth, play my drum, summon songs of comfort and speak (or cry) my prayers out loud. Not everything makes me feel good or safe but that’s not the purpose, it all helps me feel connected and part of something bigger than me and my story and it gives me hope that maybe I am doing my part after all in this big collective awakening. Even if it often hurts like hell. So the dragon too has now become my totem, as Isis and Sekhmet continue to hold my hand and provide the necessary fire to keep going when the going seems unbearable. That said, please do not believe that I am not well, do not worry for me, for I am exactly where I need to be. I find light and love everyday, my community of friends, animals and family have been steadfast and the magik never ceases to amaze and bedazzle me. Something is at work and we are in this together! It truly is in divine order.I love you!

So on this day, known as Lammas or Lughnasadh we mark the threshold to the season of plenty (Autumn Equinox). Lammas is a time to express gratitude to the Gods and mother Earth for all the blessings and gifts that have been bestowed upon us. And lucky me, tomorrow, one of my Priestess sisters and I will take to the hills to dance between the worlds, eat honey cakes and bellow out our prayers with friends. Join us!!!

Yours truly with Love & Magik

Kate
